Wing Bowl 15

Wing Bowl 15

In what has become a Philadelphia tradition the Friday before the Super Bowl, Wing Bowl 15 was held before a sellout crowd at the Wachovia Center. The basic premise of this contest is to eat as many Buffalo chicken wings as you can. This years winner ate 182 wings, which is a record for the Wing Bowl.

This event has grown en masse every year since its inception. It all started as a radio stunt for the local sports talk radio station 610 WIP and has gotten bigger and bigger every year. Contestants qualify for this event by doing various eating stunts, such as eating 3 large pizzas in 15 minutes, or other really weird events.

As you can see by the picture above there are also wingettes, which add a little flavor (pun intended) to the event.

The radio station really promotes the event, and the prizes for the winners are really great, usually a nice vacation and/or a car.

Some people may find the event silly, but for a city that has lacked any sort of major sports championship for a long time, this event is always very popular.

182 wings, I don't think I have eaten that many in my whole life.

Bring on the Pepto Bismol
