The Wrong Priorities

Once again the mayor of this great city has his priorities screwed up. He was so intent on getting an iPhone that he stood in line most of the day waiting for it. In a city with an ever increasing murder rate, and various other problems, he thinks its more important to get an iPhone.

Of course, in his typical, its not a big deal fashion, he said he was working while standing in line, via his blackberry.

What a piece of shit this guy, why he is still in office is beyond me.

At least he got his toy, and on taxpayers time.

Enjoy Mr. Street, I hope it was worth the wait

A Relaxing Afternoon

I am working eight hour days tomorrow and Sunday, so as is normal for me on Friday's I took a ½ day. I picked up lunch for the family then my son and I went out and got haircuts. My Mrs is working 1500-2330, and my daughter was over a friends house most of the afternoon.

After I got home from getting my hair cut, I put on my bike stuff, and went for a 15 mile bike ride on the trainer, which felt great. After that, I goofed around on the computer, then decided to play Madden 2007. I was on my second season, and this was the Superbowl game. I was playing the Pittsburgh Steelers. I beat them 51-7, thus the Eagles won their first Superbowl, albeit a virtual one.

Whilst playing the game, I also made pizza for the rest of the family, I used my pizzazz pizza maker that I got for my birthday. Good stuff.

Still chilling out the rest of the night. I will be up for another 1-1.5 hours before I call it a night.

Am taking advantage of all the downtown I can, since I will be working a lot the month of July. So I am glad that I could do so today.

On The London Bomb Plots

Been interesting and scary reading throughout the day, on the London Police defusing a car bomb and then finding another device later on. Both were car bombs loaded with gasoline, propane, and nails. An alert ambulance crew reported seeing smoke from a car and reported it which led to the discovering of the device.

Luckily the devices didn't go off which would killed or maimed a significant amount of people. Although no suspects have been apprehended, I am sure that MI5 is well involved in the case and hopefully these thugs get caught and put away for a long time.

Just a reminder that the war on terror is still going on.

All Star Game

Last night was the conclusion of my daughter's softball season, with the annual all star game, which she made. Her and two other girls made the team, they were voted on by their teammates and coaches.

The way it was setup was real nice. There was an announcer, the girls were all introduced individually prior to the game. There was a scoreboard, and each was announced prior to their at bat.

The other team won 7-6, but the game was called due to a thunder storm. The other team went ahead in the top of the fourth. We were about to take our bats when the lightening started, so we decided to call the game.

Overall by daughter was 1-2, with an RBI. She got on base both times, her first at bat was a fielders choice, and her second was a nice line drive to third base which she easily beat out.

So the baseball and softball season is officially over, and now my nights will be free.

The Apple iPhone

Count me as one of the many who don't care about this new product, nor plan to buy one. While it looks neat, $600.00 is a pretty steep price to pay, for the all in one, music player, phone, and Internet browser. I am sure as they progress with the technology the price will come down, and other carriers will come up with similar products. I have been with Verizon for over five years, and am real happy with the service, and my phone

Thoughts on Fans and Concessions

As I blogged about earlier today, my family and I went to the Phillies/Reds game last night at Citizen's Bank Park. We had great seat, just off the right field, about 24 rows back from the field. They were great seats save for the oft occurrence of the fans in front of me to trudge up and down the stairs, along with the various beer, soda, popcorn, vendors, that would obstruct our view.

Not only did I find these people annoying, I also felt it was also unsafe, considering our proximity to the field. So any hard hit foul ball could easily knock one of the these folks out.

At one point my boy had to go to the bathroom, I guess it was about the seventh inning, and it was only then that the ushers were stopping people from returning to their seats until there was a stoppage in play. I should note that, we made our pit stop in between innings which is when folks should go the restroom, or concession stand, etc. If not for their own safety but so people can watch the game without having to look around them.

You can't do this kind of stuff at theatrical performances, why should you do it at the ballpark.

Overall, I must say that CBP, is a great place to see a game. Its my third time there, and there is no comparison between it and the old Vet. I have been to Camden Yards in Baltimore and I was very impressed with that stadium, but I have to say that CBP, is much nicer.

Although the concession prices are ridiculously high, here are some of what I can remember:
  • Beer, $6.75
  • Soda, $6.25
  • Bottled Water, $3.25

I nearly died when I saw the price of one beer, and that was a 12 ounce bottle, and this was Miller Lite and Budweiser, not even a good beer that is worth that much. You can almost buy a case of them for the price.

Gone are the days when going to a baseball game or any professional sport for that matter is a cheap night out for the family. I figure between tickets, parking, souvenir's, and food, we dropped well over $200.00. Its a wonder this a normally a once a year event for us.

Boy Aramark has a sweet deal, and must be making a mint down there.

Phillies 11 Reds 4

It was seemed like batting practice for the Phillies last night, they defeated the Reds 11-4. The Phillies had 16 hits, three of which were home runs, and four doubles.

The big disappointment for me, was Ryan Howard striking out four times, after hitting a two run home run in the first inning. The reigning MVP, was beautiful on his first at bat, but looked like a hacker the rest of the night. All of the starters save for the pitcher got hits last night.

One of the more exciting things to happen was a double steal that occurred in the second inning. Michael Bourn stole second and Catcher Carlos Ruis stole home, on Red's catcher David Ross's throw to second, and was safe at home on the play, albeit it was a close play.

We had a nice night out last night, although it was very humid and hot. Once the sun went down, it cooled down a little but not enough. There was however a nice breeze.

I got off easy, only spending $20.00 in the gift shop, although they killed me on concessions

Play Ball

Tonight the family and I are going to Citizen's Bank Park here in Philadelphia to catch the Phillies play the Red's. These tickets were a Father's Day present. Right now it 88° here and probably about that in humidity. Going to be a hot one tonight at the ball park. The Phillies have been playing good ball lately, so hopefully we will see a good game.

It will be a nice break from the grind of late, and spend some nice quality time at the stadium.

A Busy July

Well the word has come down that July is going to be a hectic month for our firm, specifically our department. I will probably be working the next two full weekends in a row, and working later most of next week save for next Wednesday, the Independence Day. Not sure about the remainder of the weekends in July but I know I am in for some long days during the week. I am already coming at 0530 in the morning.

I am schedule for vacation, the first full week in August, guess I will catch up on my sleep then.

Baseball 2007 Recap

Well my son's baseball season ended earlier this afternoon. He made his tournament team, and they were playing in a consolation game, as they lost their game Thursday night.

My son got to start today, he played in left field. He got three at bats, struck out twice, and got on base on a walk and scored a run. The BOB bat was great, he was down 0-2 and took four straight balls. He was so excited to score a run.

He had a good year overall. This was his first year facing a pitching machine and toward the latter part of the season, pitchers of his own age.

He progressed well over the year and did really well in the field.

He will be playing soccer in the late summer/fall. So he has the rest of the summer off.

Softball 2007 Recap

Well the season is officially over, save for the all star game next Thursday, and I would say overall it was a good year. We had a few girls for whom this was their first year playing who really progressed well over the season, and our veteran players refined their skills.

We probably won more games than we lost, their was no official score, albeit we kept a book just to keep track of the lineup, but a score was kept.

The girls played well together as a team, and despite one of the girls losing her father in middle of season she continued to play on, and do so in strong way.

I really enjoyed coaching this year, and hope to do it again next year when my daughter moves up to the travelling, more competitive level.

Now I am going to catch up on some rest.

Thank You Mike

After 13 years in the NFL, seven with the Eagles Philadelphia Eagles Tight End and Long Snapper Mike Bartrum is retiring. Although he was better known as a very consistent long snapper he also was a third string tight end. While he only caught 11 passes in his career, six of them were for touchdowns.

Bartrum, suffered a serious neck injury during the Indianapolis Colts and was out the remainder of the season.
He even was once called on to do kicking duties when kicker David Akers was injured during a game.
While he was not a big name player, or scorer he was a very consistent long snapper, and even made the Pro Bowl.
He will be missed by a lot of the fans in this city, and we thank him for all his hard work he did while he was here.

A Training Respite

At least for the 45 minutes for lunch. We went non stop for nearly two hours this morning with the trainer, leading and me driving (read using the computer which was transmitted on the wall. I learned a few things, and still have an afternoon of stuff to get through. A lot of this is just reinforcing what I have already learned and giving me an opportunity to show my stuff a little.

Hopefully the afternoon goes quick...the morning did

More Training

Starting at 1000 right coast time, I will spend the better part of my work day in a training class still learning new things about our new accounting software. Most of this will be a refresher for me, but I will try and get at least something out of it. I try to be open minded, even though these are boring and repetitive, and often go at a snail's pace. Anyway its time out of the office.

At least I will get a free lunch out of it

I'm At A Loss

On what to blog about today. I have had the blogger dashboard up all morning waiting for some magical random though to pop into my head, and so far nada. I am eating lunch now (ham and swiss on a long roll, and kettle chips), and I figured I'd just start typing and see what happens.

I have been in and out of meetings most of the morning, still have a pile of stuff to do, and I found out earlier today that I will be in meetings most of the day tomorrow.

All of these meetings are leading up to our firms conversion to new software which will happen in the next couple of weeks. Which means a lot more OT for me.

Maybe something will come to me as the day goes on but for now, that's it

Not Too Complain to loudly

but, last night my son had a scrimmage game with one of the tournament teams they are going to play this week. Usually one of the parents umpires. Last night, the guy was calling balls and strikes from behind the pitchers...50 feet away from the plate. Needless to say his calls were consistent meaning most if not all of his balls and strikes he called sucked. My boy struck out looking twice last night, and one of the called strikes was at his head. My son is one to complain, but he came up to me after the second call out, and said that was at his head, and I agreed with him.

Even some of the other parents were complaining about the inconsistency. Which generally does not happen.

I understand this guy was just filling in and the game was a practice game, but I hope for the tournaments sake that this guy does not umpire, and that they at least have some real umpires.

A Shout Out To My Kids

First my son, made the tournament team for his 7-8 year old baseball team. He was chosen amongst 30 players in his league. Fifteen are going to play

Then to my daughter, who made her all star team. Even though I was one of the coaches, I did vote for her, but she deserved to be on the team.

Baseball tournament started tomorrow night, all star game is next week

What is nice about this is that, both of my kids, may not be the best players out their, but they give 100% effort all the time, do what they are told, play hard, and most importantly have fun and are good sports.

They are truly learning the aspects of being part of a team and the benefits that it brings

Thoughts On Father's Day

Today marks my 12th Father's Day. I got to sleep in until noon, and I had a nice breakfast (French Toast, Pancakes, Sausage, and Bacon). I got the cards, and my present was tickets to the Phillie's and Reds game on June 26th.

I have always said that parenting is one the few things you can only learn by actually doing it, ergo, on the job training. Everyday is something different and as they get older things tend to get more complicated, but its nice to see your children grow up and become independent, yet still dependent on us as parents.

Parenting is a team effort, and its a shame that so many children grow up without or with little presence of their father in their lives. Having both parents around or involved with the children is so important, as having both parents around especially a dad, is very important.

I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world. Sure, we have our moments, and but heads time to time, but overall I am blessed to have two beautiful children, and a beautiful wife.

Most importantly I'm not only a father but a dad.

Amazing What A Good Nights Sleep

Can do for the body and for your mental health. The last few nights I slept like crap. Plus with getting up at 0415 in the morning to be in the office by 0530 makes for some short sleep nights. I have been pretty wound up with work issues and a busy softball and baseball schedule, so that hasn't helped.

A Little Spring Cleaning

The other morning, I dropped my bicycle computer (speedometer, odometer, etc) that I use on my bike that is attached to a trainer which allows me to ride my bike indoors, in my garage. It was a fluke thing really. I was carrying it downstairs with the intention of reattaching it to my bike but had inadvertently taken it with me to the car. I was carrying it with my palm pilot, cell phone, and car keys, so my hands were kind of full. As I got into the garage it went flying out of my hand, and onto the garage floor. This thing is about the sized of a matchbook but its about and inch or so thick. I felt around the floor a little bit and came up empty handed, and since I was headed to the office, I figured I'd look later.

I forgot that I didn't have it attached to my bike last night when I went to hop on a go for a ride. I started looking for it again, this time in earnest. I was still coming up empty. After about ten minutes of being on my hands and knees, moving around stuff and feeling around for it, I decided that started throwing out some of the crap that has accumulated over the years...

you can see where this is going.

I went upstairs, took of my cycling stuff, threw on shorts and a T-Shirt, and a pair of sneaks, grabbed two trash bags and the dust pan from the kitchen, and headed for the garage. On my way to the garage I grabbed the big wide broom as well.

As I started to move and throw stuff out, I decided to pull the car out as well to make it easier to move me and stuff around.

After purging a lot of crab, throwing out an old lawn mower and three bikes that we don't use (and are broken), and sweeping out as best I could, I grabbed the leaf blower. Any dirt or crap that was left in the garage is/was now in the back alley. By this time, the Mrs and kids are wondering what the heck I was doing

So the garage is clean, and better organized. Although it wasn't my intention for this lost item search to become a major project (a little over an hour), it was something that needed to be done, and I feel better that things are more organized.

This was actually a good thing, as I really wanted to ride my bike as I had a really tough day. Since I like to know the exact distance I ride, I bagged it. So expending my energy cleaning the garage worked out just as well

Final tally of things removed from the garage:
  • Two full bags of trash
  • One lawnmower
  • One little kids bike
  • Two adult ten speeds
  • Various broken yard tool
  • Two trash can lids

I have two car seats (baby) that are going out as well, and a double stroller that I will probably freecycle or something.

and I never did find the damn bike computer, so I ordered a newer upgraded version.

This Is A Good Sign

Donovan McNabb practiced yesterday at the Eagles minicamp. The first time he has worked out since injuring his knee last November.

While I am sure if felt good for Donny Mac to get our there and throw, I am sure he will see limited action until the regular season starts. If he plays in the preseason, I am sure it will only be for a series or maybe two.

Hopefully this time off has gotten his head together, and he can continue what Garcia started.

A Triple Play

It wasn't pretty but our girl's managed to pull off a triple play last night. Here is the scenario: Bases were loaded, no outs. Batter hits a line drive to the pitcher, she catches it, then instinctively throws home. The catcher tags the girl coming from third out. Here is the funny part. The catcher doesn't know what to do now, so we are yelling at her to throw the ball to first, since both the first and second base runners ran on contact. Catcher throws the ball to first, and boom, we have a triple play.

It seemed like it took five minutes, but it all played it out in a matter of seconds. It wasn't until after the play at first took place and we explained what happened, that the girls realized what they had done. They were all thrilled.

It was a great way to end the game, which we won 10-2

When Enough Is Enough

We were able to get it to work this morning, and I had some success post conference call this morning but since late morning its been giving me nothing but trouble for the remainder of the day.

This week will be more complicated at night as I have to pick the kid's up at my wife's aunt's house, which means I have to drive through the city to get there. Got to sleep in until 1030 this morning, made the Mrs and I some coffee, slugged around for about an hour, then went downstairs and rode the bike for about 37 minutes. Actually was one of my better rides this month. Cranked out 15.34 miles in 37.46, which averages out to about 24.4 MPH. Which is pretty darn fast for me, usually I average in the upper 22's low 23's. Maybe it was the caffeine jolt

Have To Agree With The Cardinal On This

The City of Philadelphia has adopted the status of being a Pro-Choice City. The Archbishop of Philadelphia, Cardinal Justin Rigali, has issued a statement denouncing the resolution stating

"I reject the resolution because so many heroic efforts are made continually to safeguard unborn children from the evil of abortion, to protect vulnerable children and families and to defend all women and men in crisis"

I believe the Cardinal is well within his right to speak out against this, and wholeheartedly agree with his statement. This sends the wrong message to the people of this city, and will only encourage more abortions.

Philadelphia is a predominately liberal city, and it takes a lot of guts for the Cardinal to make a statement like this, but someone needs to come out and say it, and I'd take to see the Cardinal take it one step further, and refuse to give communion to the members of council who are Catholic. Its time to start holding politicians accountable to the beliefs of their faith. You can't be a cafeteria Catholic when it comes to matter such as these

Hilton Freed From Jail?

According to press reports coming out in the past few minutes, Paris Hilton is apparently being released from jail after spending only three days in the klink. She was originally scheduled to serve 45 days, but it was reduced to 23 days by the judge.

This is a developing story so it will interesting to see why she was released early. Personally the judge should have sent her up the river for the full 45 days.

I guess money still has it privileges, but will this spoiled bitch learn her lesson, probably not. I bet she gets another DUI within a year, hopefully she doesn't injure anyone else in the process.

Slow Down

Its been an observation of mine for some time, that people, especially those in this area of the country are in too much of a hurry to get where they are going...me included.

Yesterday I was coming home from a doctor's appointment and jumped on a local interstate highway, which has a posted speed limit of 55 MPH. I generally do about 65 MPH as that was traffic generally flows at. Last night cars were blowing past me like I was standing still, and on more than one occasion, I had cars come up right on top of me, and make sudden lane changes to avoid hitting me in the ass. At one point I found myself going 70 and still being blown off the road.

Heck even driving in local traffic sometimes, especially in the western part of Philadelphia, people will pass, and even go through red lights and stop signs.

I try to stay within 5-10 MPH of posted speed limits, and stay in one lane if at possible when driving on the highway, but it still befuddles me that people fly by me without a care in the world, and its people of all genders and age groups.

Last night really was a wake up call, that people need to slow the hell down, the few seconds they may save, could cost them in a speeding ticket, or even worse theirs or someone else's life

63 Years Ago today

The greatest amphibious invasion ever to occur took place on the beaches of Normandy France. Earlier in the evening 18,000 American and British paratroopers jumped in behind the lines, and at 0630 local time, soldiers from US, France, England, Canada, and other nations stormed the beaches under intense fire from a well entrenched German army.
Ultimately the Allies were able to amass a beachhead of over 155,000 troops, and begin the invasion, and ultimate liberation of France and western Europe. Eleven months later the German forces capitulated and the war in Europe was over.
Lest we forget the men who died that day and subsequent days and months following the invasion. Their sacrifice will never ever be forgotten
Here is the order of the Day, from General Eisenhower:

Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eves of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe; and security for ourselves in a free world. Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely. But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to Victory! I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory! Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

Dwight D. Eisenhower

How Come?

The antiwar folks aren't up in arms about the US Soldiers that were killed recently by insurgents. If this had been the other way around these wackos, and the MSM would be all over it demanding justice and calling for investigations. No the major news outlets are quiet about. Seems that Paris Hilton going to jail is more important

This is what pisses me off about this country. We send our men and women to fight battles, and it seems that all the big mouths do is criticize, and question the integrity of the military. Yet when its time to go on the record, they all the sudden become big supporters of the troops.

Its time to let the military do what they do best, and for the politicians, and MSM to shut their mouths, and stay out of the military's way.

A Cooling Off Period

Well mother nature has brought in some rain and thunder storms, and along with it, a cold front

Its nice having the windows open and a nice breeze going through the house. The weather should be pleasent for most of the week

We had planned to go swimming today, but the weather changed our minds. It was actually nice to lounge around the house most of the day

The bad weather did hold off long enough for my son to have his tryouts for his baseball tournament in a few weeks. It looks as if he will make the team, as he put in a pretty good performance today.

Surprise, Surprise

It comes as no surprise to this blogger that the latest terror plot that was foiled today, that the suspects were Muslims. This is the second such plot that has been uncovered in the last few months. Those suspects were Muslim as well.

When will the American Muslim community or the worldwide Muslim community condone such plots, and acts of violence committed in the name of Allah. The Islam apologists insist, that Islam is a religion of peace, but always seem to be silent when news such as this, and fail to distance themselves from such extremist. I realize the terrorists represent a very small percentage of the Muslim community, but its easy for the common folks to associate Islam with violence and acts of terror but until the Muslim community takes some ownership here and come out and speak against these acts, and cooperate with law enforcement, that most American will continue to associate Islam with terrorism.

Its good to see that our government is really stepping up is efforts to combat such horrendous and senseless acts of violence against innocent American citizens. Keep up the great work.

Note to Democrats, maybe the Patriot Act is working.

Damn, Its Hot

As I am sitting here at home, its 89° with 44% humidity. Some thunder storms are moving, and supposed to bring cooler temperatures. Last week, I succumbed to the pressure from the family, and turned on the big brown box (my name for the room air conditioner). I also put the air conditioner in our room, as I need to be comfortable to sleep.

Also today, was the last Friday until September where I will have my afternoons free. The kid's, and Mrs finish school in a few weeks, and are on ½ days. We usually go out to lunch on our Friday afternoon's and have quality family time. Which during this busy time of year is very nice.

Guess my electric bill is going up, sigh
