Thoughts and Prayers

Go out to members of the Sharon Hill Fire and Police Departments as they were injured battling a blaze late last night. Sharon Hill has been my home for over 12 years, and I have been a member of one its sister fire company's for over 21 years.

Incidents like these should remind all of us how dangerous firefighting is, and the fact that the firefighters that were injured, are/were volunteers.

Hopefully the injuries aren't too serious and the young men recover.

Behold The Power of Chicken

Its amazing the kind of meal you can create with what one pound of chicken breast (or boobs as I like to call them), and assorted ingredients which are readily at your disposal. A little bit of this, and that and presto, you have an ambrosial meal.

Last night I had some time to tinker with dinner as we had no where to be, so time was working against us. I pulled out the chicken from the freezer, and popped it in the microwave, and while it was defrosting, started ruminating as to what to make. Shake and Bake was out since we didn't have any. Then I saw a box of Bisquick, looked on the back of the package and saw something interesting.

As usual when I cook, I modify the ingredients to tweak it a little, and use the recipe as more of a guideline, but for the most part, most of my chicken meals are ad-hoc.

So, I added a mélange of ingredients, and for good measure sprinkled some cheese on top, since if all else fails, the cheese will make the meal.

I added some twice baked potatoes (pre-made), and frozen corn, and presto the meal was done.

I had no idea what to call it, or even if I would remember how to make it again, but the members of my dining party were quite impressed with the meal, and we managed to get through sans any complaints about what we were/were not having.

A rare sit down lackadaisical dinner, with no interruptions, or deadlines, a rare but enjoyable occasion.

The 75th Anniversary Team

With a few exceptions I have seen most of these players play, I am sure there could be some disputes amongst the older folks out there, but the game is so much different now than it was then. Most impressive of all is the fact that Chuck Bednarik made it as both center and middle linebacker.

Overall what a great list it is, and to me it brought back a lot of great memories of some phenomenal players both past and present

Eagles 56 Lions 21

In a second ½ that was not as exciting as the first, the Philadelphia Eagles bested the Detroit Lions 56-21. The 56 points was the most points scored by the Eagles under Coach Reid, and tied a club record from way back in 1953. In a game that produced over 500 yards of total offense, including 381 passing yards, nearly 150 yards rushing, the touchdowns were split evenly, 4 receiving and 4 rushing touchdowns. Kevin Curtis set a career high with 11 receptions for 221 yards and three touchdowns, to lead all Eagles receivers. Brian Westbrook finished the game with 110 yards on 14 touches and two touchdowns, and 5 receptions for 111 yards and one touchdown.

Donovan McNabb played as flawless a game as I have seen him play in a long time, in fact he had a perfect QB rating of 158.3. Despite all the outside distractions, with his HBO interview that was shown last week, and his poor performance in the last two games, McNabb came out like he had something to prove, and prove he did.

The offensive line was amazing, allowing only 3 sacks (1 against McNabb and two again rookie QB Kevin Kolb who came in a mop up role late in the third quarter), and opened up a lot of holes for the running backs and gave McNabb lots of time to pass the ball and find open receivers. Best of all his passes were on target, and he didn't kill any worms today.

This Sunday the Eagles wore throwback jersey's that were the teams first Jersey's from thier inaugural season in 1933 (see picture above). Even the Linc was repainted in the nostalgic yellow and blue. While certainly not my first choice, they are certainly different, and the team performed almost perfectly today. I wonder if the throwbacks will make another appearance this year, hell if they play like this in them, I'd keep wearing them

The defense, even though they held the Lions to 21 points, allowed Detroit QB Jon Kitna to throw for a career high 446 yards, although they did only allow 39 yards rushing. They did however sack Kitna 9 times, and held the Lions to zero points in the second half. The secondary was missing Dawkins and Sheppard, and their absence was most noted in the amount of passing yards given up.

Overall it was a well executed and highly emotional game, with a lot of excitement and some much needed confidence to the team and fans. Let's hope this momentum continues in to next week as the Eagles travel up the New Jersey turnpike to play the New York Giants.

What a Wild First Half

Here in Philadelphia. The offense has finally shown some life, and McNabb, Curits and Westbrook are having an excellent game. With the score, 42-21 this has the making of a wild an exciting game.

Westbrook is having one of the best games I have ever seen from him so far. His stats through the first ½ are, 98 yards receiving on 3 catches, with one touchdown, and 102 yards rushing on 11 carries with two touchdowns. McNabb is 14/15 for 332 yards, and 4 touchdowns. Kevin Curtis is leading all receiver's with 9 catches, for 205 yards and 3 touchdowns.

I think the Eagles should keep wearing the throwback uniforms, even though they aren't the most appealing.

Let's hope the momentum carries through the remainder of the game, and the birds attain a much needed win.

iPod Update

Well I have had the iPod for a little over three weeks now, and I must say, I really like it. What I like most is podcasting. There are so many interesting podcast's out there, that its hard to choose what to listen too. I mostly listen to auto related, and local sport radio podcast's both which appeal to me the most. I also subscribe to any interesting podcast from the Pritzker Military Library, which features interviews with medal of honor winners as well as authors, historians, and military members who have written both fiction and non-fiction books.

The medal of honor interviews are very intriguing, and very informative. What amazes me is the humility of these men, but when you read about there actions, they are breath taking, and truly show the courage of the common person when thrust into what seems like a helpless situations.

I am sure as I find more and more things to listen too, I will enjoy the iPod more and more. I have 22 GB's of space, lots of room.

Looking For The First Win

For the Fighting Irish and Eagles. Both teams have yet to win a game this year. The Eagles probably have the best chance as they are favored to win against the Detroit Lions. The Irish are double digit dogs, against Michigan State.

At least the Phillie's are putting on a good show for the last part of the season, and making a valiant run for the post season. With a lot of help from the Mets whom are imploding, and have lost their last seven games to the Phillie's, the Phil's are bringing some much needed excited to this beleaguered sports town, so desperate for a winner.

For Eagles and Irish fans, it could be a long fall, but for Phillie's fans, we are hoping for a longer fall.

Steroids: Round 3

Well it took four attempts to find a good vein, but the home care nurse finally got the IV started. Normally he get's it on the first try get's the IV running and is on his way, normally a fifteen-twenty visit. Today he was here for almost 45 minutes. Lucky for me, I have a pretty high pain tolerance, and was able to tolerate the multiple sticks needed to secure the IV.

Even though the temperatures are on the mild side, I am very sweaty and no matter how much I drink, I can't seem to get cool. I also have the bitter metallic after taste that I have had after anterior infusions the last couple of months.

Overall, I think the treatments are helping, but they seem to only help for about three weeks. Usually the week I am due for my IV therapy, I notice an exacerbation of the MS symptoms, specifically spasticity in my legs, and arms, and some general weakness and fatigue. I see the neurologist in about six weeks so I will mention it to him when I visit with him,

As for the my general feeling overall. I am still having some rough periods in dealing with the emotional as well as the physical demands of the disease. Its the mental part that seems to be be the toughest part. Having another chronic disease and being as young as I am (39), really gets me down, but I have some good friends and a loving spouse that are sympathetic, and supportive, which are a tremendous help.

The physical parts seem to be going better than they were. As stated above, I think the steroids are helping with the corporeal symptoms, which is nice, as I takes the worry out of falling, losing my balance, etc. The medication regiment at this point seems to be the right combo. Having the physical part of the disease at least being managed at this point is good for my self confidence, and helps with my self esteem. Although, I still am being careful when ascending and descending stairs and walking in general.

I am still able to work, albeit I cut my hours down to 40, instead of the 50+ that I had been. Things at work have slowed down a little bit and things are calming down with the recent conversion. There are still some bugs that are being worked out, but overall the system is working well.

So that's the latest on the MS front.

On O.J.'s Arrest

He seems to be smiling a lot since his arrest, on robbery charges.

One of his friends is saying that OJ was setup.

Of course he was setup, the same people who set him for the murders of his wife and friend.

Wonder if he pulls the race card again.

Eagles 12 Redskins 20

An abysmal performance last night on national television as the Eagles fail to score a touchdown in an embarrassing loss.

QB Donovan McNabb looked like crap, and although he was 60% (28/46) for 240 yards, he threw 0 touchdowns, 0 interceptions. His consistency as has been a problem for most of his career is his under throwing, overthrowing, throwing the balls in the ground. Another problem is receivers not getting open. The Eagles have two good receivers, they need to start making plays. Tight End LJ Smith, needs to be sat, as his injury is definitely affecting his play.

I shut the game off last night, mid 3^rd quarter as it was getting late, and the game was even uglier.

The only bright spot was Brian Westbrook's performance (surprise, surprise) 96 yards rushing on 17 attempts, as well as 66 receiving yards on 8 catches. The other bright spot, was Kicker David Aker's consistency.

A lot of things need to be fixed, perhaps a QB change albeit temporarily, and maybe go back to the running game, as that seems to be working.

Cat 5 Mice 0

In the last week, our big boned has killed three mice and two others died after I moved them outside. We have had a rodent problem for about a month, and we have been waiting for the cat to step up a little bit here. He has. One was outside, and the others were in the house, three in the last 24 hours. We think we may have a nest in the pipes somewhere, or in the basement. The last three mice, it appears the cat brought upstairs and played with them, or smothered them. One was DOA, one last night was still alive, but died when I put him outside. The one I found earlier today, was being played with by the cat, and appeared to be near death. The cat looked pissed off that I took his toy from him.

Now the cat is resting comfortably in the dining room, he has certainly earned his keep in the last week.

Four Days

Since my last blog entry. Not a whole lot to post about. I had two cardiology appointments in the last four days. One was with the doctor and the other was a ¼ly defibrillator checkup. Both visits went fine. I found out that I need to keep myself better hydrated especially in the summer.

I am home today with the boy, who is sick. The weather here has been beautiful, nice and cool, in fact the last couple of nights we have had no air conditioner or fans on at night, and we actually need jackets when we go out in the morning.

The Phillies took three games from the Mets this past weekend and are still in the hunt for the division and/or wild card The Eagles play their home opener tonight, and hopefully will have their heads out of their asses and really stick it to the Redskins tonight.

On Belichick and Cheating

So Belichick got caught, and the NFL is debating on what to do with him. I have a few questions. He has a lot of proteges out there...are they doing the same thing? Has a can of worms been opened? Is this a common practice amongst the coaches and teams?

I am sure as this story develops more things will come out. My suggestion is that, New England, be disqualified from the post season, and Belichick suspended for a couple of games, and subsequently fined.

Commissioner Goodell seems to have a set of balls, and has been tough on the rogue players out there, let's see if that trend carries over to coach and owners.

The Revolving Door

of the Philadelphia Eagles now has Reno Mahe returning punts after the debacle this past Sunday. J.R. Reed was released to make room Mahe. Why the Eagles didn't give recently released Jeremy Bloom a call as he proved he could at least catch the ball still leaves me scratching my head and a lot of other fans as well.

So for now the Eagles put a band aid on something that needs a cast, will it work, it remains to be seen.

I love this team, but often wonder about some of the decisions that they make...although they know more than I do about personnel, signing a guy who has been out of football, as opposed to a guy who was in camp and game tested strikes me as odd.

Lest We Forget

That over four thousand Americans perished when this nation was viciously attacked by radical Islamic terrorist.

While they may have won that day, they have not and will not break the American spirit and way of life.

The fight is far from over, and probably will never end, but everyday that we are not attacked is a victory against this intransigent group of killers bent on disrupting the American way of life.

So let's not forget the fallen, and continue our resolve, for if we do, the terrorist win

On Rugby

Friday night, I was at my buddy's house enjoying some adult beverages, and he happened to have a Rugby game on TV. This was my first time ever watching a game, and was very intrigued at how fast the game is, and most of how physical, and they do most of the hitting sans the pad's and safety equipment that adorn American football players.

My buddy happened to play rugby for a number of years and was very gracious in explaining the game to me, and provide excellent color commentary as to what the rules were, and what the different strategies are.

All I can say is wow, those rugby player's are amazing athletes.

Eagles 13 Packers 16

Describing the special teams play of the Philadelphia Eagles as disastrous would be one one of the understatements of the year. A few words come to mind; catastrophic, cataclysmal, or dreadful. But the word(s) that stick out most for me, are suck and ass, collectively as suck ass.

Sure the finger can be pointed at a few players and some bonehead decisions but overall those faux pas cost the Eagles the game yesterday.

The Eagles defense contained the run very well, and held Brett Favre to under 175 yards passing. The offense looked shaky although versatile running back Brian Westbrook had a good game, with 85 yards rushing on attempts, and 46 yards receiving on 6 catches. Quarterback Donovan McNabb, looked like his old self yesterday, and showed no signs of any complications from his ACL injury nine months ago.

Another bright spot, was second year wide receiver Jason Avant, who caught the only Eagles touchdown, on a beautiful second effort that got him (well the ball) over the goal line. He finished the game with 54 reception yards on 3 catches. Starting wide receivers Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis were less than stellar yesterday.

I am sure coach Reid and specifically new special teams coach Rory Segrest will be pushing the special teams real hard this week, especially since they have an extra day of practice with the next game being on a Monday.

Get it together boys, you won't be making the trip to Arizona in 2008 if you continue to play like this.

So Far, Not Too Bad

At halftime of the Eagles/Packers game the score is 10-10. A blunder on special teams coast the birds seven points, but the Eagles fought back and tied the game. Westbrook looks great as usual, and is having a good game. McNabb has been pretty effective so far, and it looks like the knee isn't giving him any trouble at all.

Let's hope the offense shows some more signs of life, and the defense gets down and dirty, and the Eagles dominate the second half of this game.

A New Ipod

Well this past Friday, I finally joined the Ipod generation and bought myself one. So far I really like it. Podcast are pretty cool, I need to look more into them, so far they seem pretty neat. I love having all of my music with me. I have almost 1200 songs (a little over 4 gigs). I also put all of my pictures on the Ipod, which are really neat.

I just ordered a transmitter for my car, so I can listen to my tunes in the car, which will be neat.

Of course right after I bought this, Apple comes out with some new models, and prices, that would have given me more options, and better prices. For now, I am real excited about my new toy, and look forward to years of enjoyment.

The First Day of School

For the kiddies today, albeit a ½ day. Starting tomorrow they have full days. Hard to believe they are in third and sixth grade now.

They got their new school bags and lunch bags, and I am sure by now their minds are thirsting for knowledge, (they probably would much rather be in bed at 0800 in the morning though)

Good For Pedestrians

Bad for tourists. Philadelphia taxi operators are planning a 48 hour strike to protest the installation of GPS and credit card machines with their brethren in New York City. The Philly cab's have had the devices for a while and there are some problems being ironed out, but ultimately it should provide faster more convenient service to the consumer.

On my way into the office this morning a little after 0600, I only saw one cab, normally I see more than that.

I will be going out for coffee in a little bit, let's see if the taxi's are out there or not.

If they do go out on strike, or whatever its called, at least it will be safer to drive and walk the streets of Philadelphia albeit for a short time,

Guess with the holiday weekend a slight increase in gas prices was expected. I an sure after months of falling prices a minimal increase is not that bad.

Nice Truck

The US Military has put into service a new vehicle called MRAP's (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected). The goal of these new trucks is to cut down on casualties brought on by IED's or other homemade bombs. The Humvees even the up armored one's just aren't providing enough protection for our fighting men and women.

At a cost of over $500,000.00 a piece they will provide troops in battle with a new tool to help combat IED and ambush's with its V-shaped hull that will disperse the bomb blast ergo saving more lives. They are also going to be able fight back with various weapons systems being installed.

Weighing slightly over 26 tons. They are powered by a big 330 HP Cat diesel engine and are 6x6 wheeled vehicles. The transport variant will carry at least 10 fully equipped soldiers and have a crew of two. From what I am reading there are going to be different variants for the multi purposes that the military has, and I am sure the common solider in the field will find other uses for them as well. With a top speed of 65 MPH, they can get in and out of trouble in a hurry and have an operational range of close to 600 miles

These new vehicles are being sent to Afghanistan and Iraq continuously, but I say may them a priority and get as many as possible where the are needed the most, to protect the most precious cargo of them all...the solider.

Last Summer Hurrah

Well since today is traditionally the last day of summer, we went out in grand style. We spent the afternoon at my wife's grandmother's house where there is a nice in ground pool, and lots of family. Although the water was a little on the cold side, it was nice and refreshing after sitting out in the sun for awhile. Scrabble is a very popular game there, and I played two games, even though I am not that good of a player, I enjoy the challenge.

After an afternoon of sun, swimming, and scrabble, we had a nice barbecue.

We owe a lot to the American workers, all of whom are the backbone of this country. They have gotten us through wars, thrived in peace, persevered during depressions, and continue to produce quality products and support this great nation.

Weekend Cleaning

This weekend was clean up weekend at the Cappy Estate. This morning and afternoon, we spent a good couple of hours picking up, throwing out, and various other chores that often get overlooked in busy household. Even the kid's pitched in. The boy cleaned up his room, which included, mopping his floor. The girl cleaned her room and the bathroom.

Yesterday, I hand washed my car, and this morning, I took the Sante Fe to the full service wash and it done for the Mrs, since had her car out school shopping with the kids.

The only thing left to do is to put the laundry away...four baskets worth. In that mess is a great assemblage of unmatched socks, most of which will probably become dust rags.

The boy and I did get some time to work on his pitching. He has some work to do on his control, but he is getting the hang of it. I think if we work a little bit each day, he will get the hang of it, and he may have a shot nice spring at trying it out for real.

Simply Amazing

How much crap can accumulate under the computer desk. The last time we cleaned under there was when when got new carpets in mid December. Almost everything behind and/or under the desk was crap and we threw it all out. The most interesting thing was the candy cane.

One good thing that came of this project was that I got to untangle all of the wires from all the different peripherals we have.

Wow, September 1st Already

Hard to believe its the first of September already. Boy this year is flying by, pretty soon (probably within the next couple of weeks) the stores will be putting the Christmas decorations and displays out.

The kid's start school on Wednesday, so its back to books, and homework for the next nine months for those guys, and for us as well. Both will be playing sports through the fall and winter, so will be busy people at night as well

The 53 Man Roster

In a surprise (to me) move the Eagles cut, PR/KR Jeremy Bloom, the former Olympic skier who played two years of college football while also skiing. Also among the cuts was veteran punter Dirk Johnson, who lost his job to Australian rules player Sav Rocca, in what was the most interesting competition this preseason.

It was not a surprise that the Eagles, keep rookie TE Brent Celek, and rookie RB Tony Hunt. Although both probably won't see a lot of action during the regular season, both performed well enough during the preseason to get roster spots. It will be neat to see these two fine young players develop and become contributors to the team in the future.

I am sure Dirk will pick up a job somewhere this season, as he is a consistent punter, and holder, and still has a lot of boom left in his leg.

So the roster has been set, its time for some football (and the second guessing as well)

Eagles 11 Jets 13

In the 2007 Eagles preseason finale, which most if not all of the starters didn't play, the Jet's won 13-11 as time expired on a 35 yard Mike Nugent field goal .

I managed to catch the whole game, even though it was a boring as I expected it to be. Second string QB AJ Feeley left the game earlier, after being sacked three times, as it turned out he broke a bone in his left hand but is expected to be ready for the opening game against Green Bay on September 9^th. Rookie QB Kevin Kolb did a copacetic job finishing the game with 220 yards completing 22 of 33 passes, with one touchdown, which was a beautiful throw, and on the subsequent two point conversion threw a perfect strike to rookie RB, Nate Ilaoa for a successful conversion.

Kolb has been impressive and shows good skills and confidence while he is behind center, he will be interesting to watch in the future

Rookie's Tony Hunt, RB and TE Brent Celek, once again showed me that the should be a part of this team with outstanding performances, albeit against second and third string defenses.

So the preseason is now over. The Eagles need to cut 22 players by Sunday, then its on to the regular season.

As for my new Congressman, Joe Sestak (D-7), I haven't heard much out of him, and I think I have gotten once piece of mail from since he has been elected. I really miss Congressman Weldon.

Let's hope the voter's remember this come next year.

Polictial Ads?

So the Mrs. and I are watching TV last night, (Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune), and during that hour, I think I saw at least five commercials, asking us to call our Congressman, to support, health care, and the war in Iraq. These ad’s appeared to be 527 related so they aren’t related to any candidate, but I am wondering why they are showing up now. I understand the importance of both issues, but the timing has me befuddled. There is no national election, nor is there any really pending legislation…at least that I know of.

I didn’t catch who the ads were paid for by, but am real curious as to the motivation.

Back To Work For The Mrs

After 2+ months off, the Mrs returned to school today for a week of in services. The children go back next Wednesday.

They seemed to have a nice summer, despite the fervid temperatures, and curve thrown at them by my MS diagnosis.

So its back to the grind for all of us, which means, settling back into methodical regime of homework, making lunches, earlier bed times (and wake up calls), and juggling fall sports into the interlocking of our days and nights.

I am sure it will take some getting used to, at least for the ¾ of us, the ¼ representing yours truly, who spent a better part of the spring and summer awakening at 0415ish in the morning, but has since readjusted his wake up time to a later 0515ish.

No sympathy for the weary from yours truly

Eagles 13 Steelers 27

In what was supposed to be a dress rehearsal for the regular looked more like a circus sideshow, the Eagles lost to the Steelers 27-13. From the get go, the hapless Eagles looked like the intention of the game was to miss tackles, not get the other players down. I caught most of the first ½ and lasted to the 3^rd quarter before I called it a night, as it was getting late.

The one bright spot was rookie quarterback Kevin Kolb's performance (26/37, 242 yards, 1 touchdown), which was much better than Donovan McNabb's lame performance (5/11, 60 yards). McNabb often looked like a deer in headlights last night, read the same old Donny Mac, taking sacking instead of throwing it away, scrambling around, throwing balls off target and trying to squeeze a ball in between coverage.

I was also pretty impressed with rookie running back, Tony Hunt's performance, and believe he will make the team, as well as Australian Rules punter Sav(erio) Rocca, who made some pretty impressive punts, and continues to perform well.

I know its only preseason, but the Eagles have some work to do if they are to be a Superbowl contender this year. Over running plays on defense, missing tackles, on defense, and not playing smart offense will not win you big games this year. The Eagles are playing a first place schedule this year, so they have a lot of tough games ahead of them this year.

This is the last we will see of the Eagles starters until the regular season, as Coach Reid indicated that the starters will not be playing this Thursday night in the preseason finale against the New York Jets.

Well I Didn't Win

I usually only get interested in the powerball drawing when it gets over 150 million. Last nights drawing was over 200 million, so I bought a ten dollar ticket, I never expect to win, but I figure I could at least try. So for the time being we are still just middle class working stiffs.

After nearly two weeks of no changes in gas prices. Gas has dropped 4¢ in the last two days. Given the fact that hurricanes did some damage to some Mexican refineries, I figured the prices would go up slightly. Weird thing is that Thursday night I filled up the Mrs.'s car, at 2.679 then next day the price dropped, to 2.659. I filled my car up today at the lower price.

I would expect that with Labor Day weekend coming that we won't see any more price drops until after then.

Goodbye Trot

In a surprise announcement earlier today, the Philadelphia Eagles released venerable linebacker, Jeremiah Trotter. The Eagles known not to be very friendly to players once they hit the 30 year old mark, cut Trot in favor of two younger, quicker middle linebackers Omar Gaither and Stewart Bradley.

Trotter who is a four time pro bowler played with tenacity and ferociousness and was beloved by the fans here in Philly, and he will be sorely missed. His presence in the middle of line was a key to Eagles defensive success over the past years.

I am sure he will be picked up by another team, and play out his remaining years with the same vigor that made him so successful.

As for the decision to let him go, well I can't say that I am surprised. As I stated above, the Eagles are known to be leery of keeping players beyond their 30's. As much as I see the point of keeping fresh young talent on the team, I always feel its good to keep veteran's around like Trotter to mentor younger players. Trotter may not be as fast as he once was but he is still a force to reckoned with, as the Eagles may soon found out.

Trotter will be missed in this city, and I hope for him that his career continues on.

This Past Weekend

We spent at the Jersey shore. Yesterday was a wash as it rained all day, but we had a nice afternoon on the beach Saturday. The boy and I dug a huge foxhole, and the girl and I, along with a couple of our uncles were getting some great body surfing in the Margate ocean, which was made better by the water being so rough.

Eagles 27 Panthers 10

In dramatic fashion the Philadelphia Eagles showed for an entire game in front of their home crowd and pounded on the Carolina Panthers 27-10. The game marked the first time in nine months that Donovan McNabb was under center in a game situation, and although he only played a couple of series, he was 6/9 for 138 yards before he was pulled out to let AJ Feeley and Kevin Kolb take over and finish out the game.

I must say that McNabb looked as sharp as ever, even this was a preseason game, it was nice to see how he performed in game situations, and even how he bounced back after getting hit a few times. Rookie QB Kevin Kolb is starting to look like he is getting the hang of things and was effective in his mop up role in the second half.

Most impressive for me, for the second week in a row was rookie tight end Brent Celek, who again caught four passes, had some great blocks. I hope the Eagles keep him, from what I have seen from him so far, he has been the best performing rookie this preseason.

It was nice to see the Eagles come out and dominate, after being owned last Monday by the Ravens. Whatever Coach Reid said to the boys must have worked.

Not Much Going On

lately, so there hasn't been much to blog about.

For once in my life I don't have a whole lot to say

McNabb is scheduled to play tonight against Carolina. Not sure if I will be able to catch the game or not, but it will be interesting to see how he does in his first real (well if you can call preseason real) game. I'd like to see him get buried once or twice just to see how he handles it.

Halfway Through August

and the work week, boy this week, month, and year are flying by.

Hard to believe that in a few short weeks the summer will be unofficially over, school will be starting, and most importantly football season starts.

Also to look forward too is our Phillies to see if they can at least get a wild card berth, else win the division outright. Would be great for this town and this team of excellent talent (save for the pitching staff) if they got into the postseason after coming oh so close the last couple of years.

Of course the fall means cooler weather, which will be most welcome by this overheated city, maybe it will cool some of the tempers down of the natives and they will stop shooting each other.

Just some thoughts for the day.

Baltimore 29 Eagles 3

Well the first preseason game is in the book, and what a disaster it was. The first team defense look crappy during the Ravens first drive, allowing a touchdown, along with a 90+ yard drive.

HB Ryan Moats left the game in the third quarter with a fractured ankle, the third player in as many to suffer a serious injury at M&T Bank stadium.

I was very impressed with rookie TE Brent Celek, who caught four balls for 59 yards, hopefully he makes the team, and hopefully he continues to progress through the preseason.

I watched the first three quarters of the game, and ended up going to sleep.

It was nice to see McNabb on the sideline even though he didn't dress for the game, he is always a great asset to the team on the sideline

Yeah I know its a preseason game, but its been seven long months since the Eagles last played a game. Will be nice to see the boys out on the field tonight. Well I'm Back

In the office, and its not as bad as I thought it would. It helped that I spent an hour or so last night, going through and deleting my emails, and responding to the one's that I could, that made the morning go much quicker and allowed me to get right to work on thing.

Finally

A break from the high temperatures and humidity. Currently its 82° here with 38% humidity. The windows have been open for the last two days in the house, and last night we had only the fan on in our room. The ten day forecast is pretty much the same as today, with slight variations in the temp/humidity but overall its looks to be pretty bearable as opposed to the oppressive heat we have had over the last month.

Looks like the dog days of summer have been temporarily tamed hopefully for good

A Change of Plans

Even though the weather was looking undesireable, we decided to go tubing which has become a family tradition for the last five years. We had period of about ten minutes where there was a light rain, but other than that the day was mostly overcast. The boy and I got a raft, and the Mrs and the girl got tubes.

The Delaware River was a foot higher than normal so the river was running quicker than normal.

A very nice day, in the middle of the river, no phones, computer, and with my family, couldn't get much better than that.

Last Day of Vacation

and today we were planning on going tubing, but it looks like the weather is going to be uncooperative, so we will probably end up going to the Aquarium in Camden, NJ. I also stop by and see the USS New Jersey (BB-62) which is docked nearby and take some pictures.

Overall it was nice to get out of the office, for a week, I did relax a little bit, although I didn't sleep as well as I would have liked. Yesterday was the only day that I slept well at all, until noon. This morning I was up before 0600.

Still have a couple more days of to chill before returning to the grind Monday morning.

Happy Birthday To My Mrs

of almost 14 years, as she celebrates another year.

We had an enjoyable day, made a nice steak dinner, corn on the cob, and french fries. I also bought her nice bouquet of roses as well.

For dessert we had a bakery made cheesecake.

No Power (Update)

We got power back an hour after it went out, and have had no problems since.

This was the hottest day of the year, so we got real lucky that is was out as brief as it was.

Well now now that Barry Bond's has cheated his way past Hank Aaron as the all time home run leader, maybe everyone will shut up about it, and move on to different things. Then for the good of baseball, Barry Bonds should retire at the end of this year, and fade away into oblivion to never be hear from again.

Another Phillies Game

On Sunday afternoon my MIL called and asked us if we us if we'd like to go to the Phillies game last night. We said sure. Our daughter was staying with a friend, and our son had a friend over for the day, so we took the friend with us.

What started off bad, Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer served up a first pitch home run, turned out to be an exciting offensive showing by the Phillies, who ended up winning 11-1. Ryan Howard had two booming home runs, and the rest of the Phillies had hot bats (well save for the stiff Pat Burrell) as well, which was kind of ironic because it was one of the hottest nights of the year, here in the city of brotherly love.

We had a real nice time, and saw a very exciting game.

Not A Bad Idea

Nissan Motor Company is testing out ways to combat drunk driving. The ideas while still in the conceptual stage are being tested in Japan. The prototype will disable the vehicle it the car determines you have had too much too drink.

This is done by odor sensors in the gearshift, measuring perspiration levels of alcohol, facial recognition software (see photo above), and finally has a system that sets off an alarm in driving becomes to erratic.

The system is currently being tested in Japan.

While I am sure there are ways around the system, it a positive step forward by the automakers to try and lower this growing problem. Of course ultimately the responsibility lies with the driver, but too many times, they make the wrong decision.

I applaud Nissan, for their efforts, and hope that other automakers follow on.

First Day of Vacation

and I was up at 0700ish this morning. After trying in vain to get back to sleep, I finally gave up and came downstairss.

I did manage to get a bike ride in despite the brutally hot weather. My last two bike rides I had to cut short due to the heat, and feeling overheated. I like to go at least 13 miles, which I was able to do this morning, but I probably pushed a little too hard.

I know I need to be careful in this heat, but my ego once again overruled the physical, and I pedaled on.

On Swimming

Today, I was at my wife's grandmothers pool, which during the summer has been a hang out for most of her family for a very long time.

It has been so hot here lately, that jumping into pool was like jumping into a warm bath. Although it felt good, it wasn't very refreshing.

Had a nice time playing with the kids, and mastering the cannonball and can openers dives which we have been working on for years.

Boys Night In ( A Five Themed)

The wife and daughter went out earlier tonight for a girls night out...not sure what that means, and I am afraid to ask, so its just me and the boy home tonight. Its to hot to do anything outside. After mass, the girls left and the boy and I went to the local Five Below to pick some little things, then went to Five Guys a regional burger chain for burger and fries. Now we have the Phillies/Brewers game on and will chill out in the AC and watch some baseball.

On Work

Boy, its never been so busy here in the office, as it has been in the last couple of months. I am vacation next week, and there is no way in hell that I am going to get everything done that needs doing prior to my leaving tomorrow at noon.

Nobody can really help me either, as they are as busy as I am, so a lot of work and then some will be waiting for me when I get back.

As much as I dread coming back from a weeks vacation to a hoard of work, the respite couldn't come at more convenient time, as I am so tired, and burned out that some time away from the office should do me good.

Hopefully I will catch up some much needed sleep too

The New Work Schedule

After my diagnosis last week, the doctor asked me to cut back on my work hours, I had been working, 50-60 hours a week. He felt that all that work was exacerbating my symptoms, and the fatigue in turn would be counter productive. After discussing this with my bosses, I am going to try, working 0630-1600, with a 30 minute lunch, and work 0800-1200 on Friday's.

If this doesn't work out, I am going to try, 0730-1600 five days a week.

Since I am on vacation next week, it will be hard to tell if its working right away. I will try the new schedule for the remainder of the month and make a decision after Labor Day

I go out today to get new windshield wipers for my car, and as soon as pull my car into the garage, and put them on, its stops raining.

The weather forecast was calling for rain most of the weekend, and we had just a little bit. I was hoping that it would rain so we could get some relief from this damn humidity.

The ten day forecast is for temperatures is over 90° for nine of the ten days. Sigh, at least I work in the air conditioning

The Steroid Effects

So far I really haven't had any. The metallic taste that I had in my mouth went away yesterday afternoon. I do however feel really hot, don't know if its the weather or the medicine or both. It's raining here now, 79°, with 85% humidity. So, I am leaning toward the weather.

Another thing they said that would happen is that I would be hungry a lot, and I haven't been, so I guess that's good

As for the purpose of the medicine, I am not sure, guess it will take a few days to see if it is helping or nor.

On Steroids

Well yesterday, at 1300, the visiting nurse came and administered my first dose of Salu-Medrol via IV. What was supposed to take an hour took almost an hour and forty five minutes. After about an hour and a half the Mrs sped the drip up as it seemed it was taking forever.

For the rest of the day, I had this awful metallic taste in my mouth, that made everything I ate or drank taste awful. It has subsided a little bit today but is still there a little bit.

The children went to the shore with my wife's aunt last night and will not be back until late tomorrow night, so its just me and the Mrs here this weekend. She was supposed to work today but was called off, and she is still scheduled to work tomorrow.

Last night after they kids left, we put the DVD The Departed in the DVD player, and the two of us ate an entire box of Sara Lee cheesecake.

So far I don't feel any different with the steroid infusion, so we'll see how that progresses over the next few days.

If all goes according to plan, I should get my first round of steroids this afternoon. From what I have heard and read, I will probably be pretty wired, and have some funny tastes in my mouth.

It is supposed to take an hour for the medicine to go through my body, and I may have to take other doses throughout the weekend.

The Latest

After over a year of speculation and testing, and finally me coming out and asking my neurologist, hey doc, what do you think I got, he came out and told me and the Mrs that its Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (See Primary Progressive Definition).

This was actually discovered sort of accidentally, when I went to my PCP with severe back pain. He then referred me to a physiatrist for follow up. During his exam he noticed that my balance was way off, and when he hit my right knee with his hammer thingy, it would not stop shaking, also he notice the same thing with my right arm. He ordered a full CT scan which show nothing out of the ordinary (and despite the objections of my wife, the CT scan did show that I did in fact have a brain, the doctors are however debating its functionality ), he then referred me to a neurologist, who ordered further test, which were inconclusive, after awhile with him, he suggested that I see a MS specialist at Jefferson Hospital here in the city, again without saying that I had MS.

The Jeff doctor, is the director of the MS center, and one of the foremost guys in the area, so was at the right place. He ordered more tests, and started me on medication, which helped somewhat.

Over the last four months, I had experienced more pronounced symptoms and increase in falls, and numbness and tingling in my feet., etc. My wife and I both knew something wasn't right.

Our office visit yesterday was a scheduled one, so I was very blunt in telling him about what has been going on, and expressing my and our concerns with the incidents. He suggested that I started a monthly routine of steroid, to be given at home via a visiting nurse which takes about an hour, I agreed.

As we were getting ready to leave I decided to come right out and ask him, as stated above. While I wasn't surprised, I was kind of relieved that he finally came out and said it. It was what I was expecting all along.

The Mrs and I went down grabbed a couple of soda's and talked for about 45 minutes about what we just heard, and then she took me back to my office.

I grabbed my bosses and told them what I found out, and asked them if I could have today off, as I need to think about things. I wanted to stay the rest of the day, just to clear some last minute things up.

One thing the doctor told me that I NEED to do, is cut back on all the overtime I have been working...close to 60 hours a week. The bosses were on board with that, and were even willing to allow me to work from home for part of the day if need be...little did they know that I already had been for awhile

I told my wife yesterday that I can't wait to turn 40, as my 30's (at least the mid-late portion) have not been so kind to me health wise.

While this is all still sinking in too me, I have a good support network setup, but most of all a loving family, which I thank God for everyday.

Although when I was Toll Jersey this past weekend, it was 2.779/gallon, AND they pump it for you. Guess that makes up for the toll's every 2.5 miles

On The Beach

Saturday night after attending mass, I decided to drive to Egg Harbor Township, NJ, where the rest of my family already was. I had worked in the office until 1400, and decided very early on that morning that I was not going to come in yesterday. So I called the Mrs and told her that I would be down later that night.

I arrived a little after 1900, had some dinner, and caught up on things with the MIL, and my family, then went to bed around 2200

Got out of bed around 1000 the next morning, had a nice big breakfast, then we packed our stuff and headed down to the pristine beaches of Margate, NJ, which is about a ten minute ride from EHT. After parking the car, and walking the ½ mile or so to the beach we unloaded our stuff.

First order of business was for me and the boy to start digging our huge hole's complete with tunnels. He does not like the ocean that much and is content in playing in the sand for the duration.

My daughter on the other hand loves the water, and since I taught her to body surf last year its something her and I try and do together. The water was nice and comfortable although the tides were a little rough.

I tried and split my time between hole digging and swimming, and I think I was able to accomplish both pretty well.

My daughter put sun tan lotion on my back prior to our departure, and by the way my back looks this morning, it looks like she missed some spots (read ½ my back), it looks kind of funny, but at least she made an effort.

Overall it was nice to be away from home and the office even though it was only for a short time.

So today its back to the grind.

The Sound Of Silence

The wife and kiddies are at the Jersey shore for the weekend, so me and the cat had the house to ourselves last night. I got home around 1430 yesterday, farted around a little bit, then hopped on my bike in the basement and went for a twenty mile ride.

After that, I made a pizza and watched The Departed on DVD, and lounged around for the rest of the night.

Went to bed early, 2130 as I planned on getting up at 0412 this morning to ride the bike, and get into the office by 0600.

I got to thinking while I was in the shower this morning, that it was weird not having anyone in the house, no fighting kids, I could watch whatever I wanted on TV without the worry over it being rated R, ate what I wanted for dinner, and could actually sit down and do absolutely nothing without being an errand boy.

But in the same context it was weird, I really missed everyone.

I will join them later tonight, and spend tomorrow on the beaches of Margate, NJ categorically relaxing.

Top Five Movie Cops

I have been giving this a lot of though lately of who my favorite TV/Movie cop's are. There are/were a lot of great candidates, but here is who I came up with:

1. Harry Callahan, (Clint Eastwood) aka Dirty Harry, probably the best known movie cop out there, not only for his massive .44 Smith & Wesson revolver, but for his infamous one liners throughout his movies.
2. Jack Cates (Nick Nolte)/Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy), 48 Hours. One convict, one alcoholic detective go on a manhunt through the street of San Francisco looking for bad guys. A little far fetched but the dialogue between the two of them is classic...and very unpolitically correct to say the least.
3. Lt. Frank Bullitt (Steve McQueen), Bullitt. He makes my list just because of the classic chase scene, Mustang versus Charger. The movie itself was kind of boring, but the stunt driving is among the best ever
4. John McClane (Bruce Willis), Die Hard. Another against the grain cop who saves the world, now four times over. Again, the one liners are classics
5. Marshal Samuel Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones), The Fugitive/US Marshals. A tough in your face kind of guy, who always gets his man.

I am sure I will come up with more later, but these are the one's that came to mind right away

Gas just went up 4¢/gallon in the the few days, after being as low as 2.899/gallon. They say the price for a barrel of oil has gone up, which is interesting because when the PPB goes down, it takes them a long time to lower the prices, but if it goes up the prices go up accordingly.

An Open Letter to Jim Rome

I don't normally listen to your show, since I can't pick up the station that carries here in Philly in my office. Today I had a doctor's appointment so I happened to catch a blurb of your show, as I was flipping through the stations in my car, on the way home from the doctor's appointment.

I heard your little rant about the Phillie's fan who was shown on the front cover of the LA Times holding a losses spelled wrong (picture above), and the turning into a tirade about the Philly fans and their reputation for bad behavior.

Yes, we did cheer when Irving was lying flat on his back, and we have had our moments of poor behavior, but it should be noted that we didn't boo Santa Claus, we threw snowballs at him, and that was almost 40 years. I think its time for the media to let that one go. Philly fans are passionate about their teams, and while I disagree with the cheering over the Irvin incident, the few incidents that the media always seems to bring up about Philadelphia and its fans gets old and is so overplayed. Philly fans are the among the most loyal in the country, and despite the lack of championships that this town has, we support our teams, not like a lot of these other bandwagon jumping fans in other cities.

I was at the game last night, and we were booing because the Phillie's sucked it up so bad, and deserved to lose the game, and the only point we were on our feet cheering was in the bottom of the ninth when the Phil's finally started to show life, and had a brief rally going, before Ryan Howard struck out to end the game.

So, before you start trashing our town, and our fan's, get your facts right. You're lucky to even have a show in this city.

You and your clones can kiss this lifelong Philly sports fan and resident's ass, and go back to coming up with meaningless banter and go out and get a life.

I Was A Part Of History

Well it took 125 years, but last night the Philadelphia Phillies lost their 10,000^th game in franchise history, and the did so in glorious fashion. The Fightin' Phil's (sic) got their asses beat 10-2, the Cardinals hit six home runs, had 15 total hits the Phillies only managed 9 hits and scored their two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Phillies have a total of 8,810 wins, to their loss count

I was actually at the game, my brother called me earlier in the afternoon, and told me he two extra tickets, so me and the boy decided to go. It was a sellout crowd, over 44,000 people were there and the game was on ESPN, along with a lot of the national media to cover this now historic event. While I was obviously hoping for a Phillies win, I thought it would be neat to be their for the historic loss. My brother and I told our boys that this was a monumental game, and while its an embarrassing moment for the franchise, it was interesting to be a part of the crowd.

The Cardinals bats, lit up starter Adam Eaton early and subsequent relievers could do nothing to calm the bats of the Cardinals down. It almost look like the Phillies pitchers were throwing batting practice to the Cardinals.

My brother gave me two of the ticket stubs, I plan on holding on to them for awhile, who knows they may be worth something someday. Because you know there were 44,000+ people at the park last night, and over the course of time, 200,000+ people will say they were there.

and for you trivia buffs out their, Ryan Howard made the last out, in his typical way...he struck out. The pitch was thrown by, Andy Cavazos.

Despite the loss, we had a nice night out with our boys.

Look For Me On ESPN Tonight

My brother called me earlier today and invited my son and me to the Phillie's/Cardinals game. Its on ESPN starting at 1805. Our seats are on the first base side in a box.

This will be our second game this year. Hopefully the Phil's win this one, as if they don't they will reach the 10,000 loss milestone.

I will have my camera with me, so I hope to get some good pictures.

A Weekend Off

After being told and subsequently planning to work most of this weekend, it was decided late yesterday by my boss that we have the option to come in this weekend. So, it was an easy decision for me to choose to stay home. Although if I went in, I would have been able to get a lot of work done, because I wouldn't have been interrupted every three minutes by co-workers who aren't as up to speed on our new system as I am, so it would have been productive for me.

The next few weeks are going to be tough though, since now the system is live, and all the data is for the most part accurate (NB: there are some things that are being corrected this weekend so all should be good by Monday morning). I anticipate a lot of stress from my co-workers, and feeling over being overwhelmed by all the questions and my not getting my own work done. I have to be able to manage every thing in a diplomatic way without losing my patience or upsetting others that I work with.

That being said, the onus was on them to get up to speed on things. I made the extra effort so should have they.

I was really wound up when I got home yesterday, mostly because of the near miss with the truck, but with the implementation of the new system going so shitty, a lot of tempers have been short lately. I have been doing a lot of tongue biting of late, I am just wondering how long it will be before I bite it off.

After lunch with the family, I went upstairs and laid down for a little bit, which seemed to help. Then I had a peaceful rest of the day. I am going to try and relax as best I can this weekend, as I am going to need to be as fresh as possible Monday morning.

How Rude Of Me

To try and cross the street when the light was green.

A coworker and I were, were out getting coffee and we had to cross the street to get to the coffee guy (23/Market for you folks familiar with Philly). As we were going back across the street we had a solid green light and we started crossing, when my coworker suddenly grabbed me and pulled me out of the way of the big delivery truck that was making the turn onto Market Street. I admit her and I were talking and I wasn't paying attention, but we both stepped out into the street at the same time, although I was a little bit ahead of her, luckily she saw the truck and grabbed me, or I would have been flattened.

We've been making light of it ever since, but it really scared the shit out of me. I do know the name of the company, so I may place a phone call to them later, just to let them know, although I didn't get a truck number or anything.

NB: No coffee was spilled in this incident

Sante Fe

We picked it up last night, and the Mrs drove it first, since she will be driving it most of the time, I wanted her to get used to it. We went out to dinner (Applebees), then after that I drove the car home, just to get a feel for it. Real nice smooth ride, lot's of cool features, and best of all...room

With the Honda now retired, I am now driving the Mrs old car, a 1995 Pontiac Bonneville. Its a real nice car, has leather seats, a kick ass ready, and lots of power for a V-6. She cleaned it up for nice for me, removing all the trash, and even washed the mat's...in the washer. I did some minor aesthetic repairs to it, just to make it look nicer, and may need to do more (door panel problems). It also needs an A/C recharge, which I am going to call about today and get that done. I am not a real big A/C person, since I usually only go short distances, but it would be nice to have it working properly, in case the kids are in it.

PA State Shutdown *Update*

Well the state is back in business. A budget compromise was reached and all things are back to normal.

Now the legislators can go home for a nice long summer vacation, must be nice

After Nearly 15 Years

of loyal, faithful service, our 1993 Honda Civic DX is being retired at 1800 tonight. We are trading it in for a brand new 2007 Hyundai Sante Fe. We got this car a year before we got married, and had little if any trouble with it at all. Its got almost a 101K miles on it, and is pretty mechanically sound, and the body for the most part is in good shape, normal scratches and dents for 15 year old car.

We are excited about getting the new car. Its real nice, and has a lot of room. The kids were lobbying hard for an SUV, and once we drove the Sante Fe, (we also drove a Tucson) we both fell in love with it.

The Sante Fe will be the Mrs car, and I will drive her Pontiac Bonneville, which is a bigger car for me with more room, and more pep.

PA State Shutdown

All non-essential services in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have been shut down, due to the lack of a State budget. This means about 25,000 state employees are temporarily laid off. Let's hope this end's soon. Certainly not something that we need at this point.

Doesn't seem like there is that big of a difference in what is needed to get a budget passed. Of course politics are playing a part, and as usual the party bickering takes precedent over the citizenry.

My Seven Wonders of The World

As was announced earlier today the new seven wonders of the world was revealed. Of the seven, I was actually at one of them, Chichen Itza in Mexico. My wife and I visited there when we honeymooned in Cancun in 1993. Quite a magnificent feat of engineering when it was built. I actually climbed all the way to the top. I remember they had a chain you could hold on to as you ascended and descended the steps.

That being said here are my seven wonders:

1. Air Conditioning
2. The Internet
3. The Automobile
4. The Airplane
5. The Telephone
6. Duct Tape
7. Computers

Most if not all of these things have made our everyday lives easier, and more productive, especially computers and the Internet. It would be hard to imagine life with out them.

I of course, went with practical things, where the science geeks went with engineering marvels. Not to knock the science guys but most of the above list are more wondrous and practical, than a bunch of old buildings.

Which is probably why, I am not a scientist.

Breakfast Today

Was French Toast, bacon, and sausage. This morning, my son did most of the prep work, while I did most of the cooking. He broke the eggs, mixed the batter, and put all the toast on the griddle. I did all the cooking, since he is still a little young (8) to do so.

He did a great job, and was full of pride when everything turned out so well. Plus as a bonus we got to spend some nice time together.

I haven't made breakfast in awhile, as I have been working the last few weekends, and I will be working the next couple. Since I was up early today, I got my bike ride in, and then went out and got the stuff I needed.

I really enjoy cooking breakfast for my family, and its nice to have that together time, which in these busy times don't happen very often

Was the latest gas price I saw at our local Wawa. That is a 4¢ drop, it was 2.939 for over two weeks. I didn't think it was ever to going to go up or down again.

Well so far its looks like nothing bad has happened, and all the superstitious folks and lottery players are playing 777, in their respective state lotteries. No terrorism, computer shut downs, or other Apocalypse type events. So for the world is coming to an end folks, look like doomsday will happen some other time.

An Entire Weekend Off

Well despite having to think I was going to work every weekend this month, I opted to take the entire weekend off, even shutting off my computer at work so I can't log in from home.

I got out of bed at 1100. Boy it was nice to sleep in. Not sure what the rest of the weekend has in store for me, but I know it won't be working.

Is Bad Coffee Better Than No Coffee?

I didn't stop for my Dunkin' Donuts coffee this morning, and the local street vendor has the day off. Then my plan C was a bust too, a local coffee shop around the corner from the office, as they are on vacation until the 10^th. So out of desperation I resorted to drinking the office coffee, although its free, its horrible, very bitter, and bland tasting.

Having been in the office since 0530 in the morning, and not having any coffee since, and all my options obviated, I conceded.

Note to self tomorrow, definitely stop at DD and get coffee.

This office stuff is terrible, albeit free, but at least its coffee.

As I was waking into the office this morning, I was waiting for the guard to buzz in, and I looked down and found a folded up $20.00 bill. I was like sweet. Nice way to start off my day.

Happy 4th of July

I know its a late posting, but I wanted to wish America a Happy Birthday, and especially to all those men and women in our military who are keeping this country safe and cannot be with their own families on this the birthday of our country. May God bless you and keep you safe, as you keep it safe for us.

As for me it was nice to have a day off after working the last nine in a row. I slept until about 1130 today, and only got up because of the parade that was coming up the street, with sirens blaring.

In the afternoon we went to my wife's grandmothers to go swimming, although I did not get in the water, it was a little too cold for me. My kids did get in, they didn't last long. We were going to go to fireworks tonight, but they were cancelled due to lousy weather. Its raining now, in fact it was raining on and off most of the day.

It was real nice to have a day off even though, the weather wasn't cooperative. Most of all it was nice to get some sleep.

A short weekend

Although I worked both Saturday and Sunday, until 1400 and 1200 respectively, I did manage to have a pretty good weekend. The highlight being a night out with the Mrs on Saturday. Although we were out late it was well worth it to spend some quality time together.

Yesterday after I got home, I made some pizzas. The kids got home from my mother in laws shortly thereafter, and they real glad to see me, which was real nice. After lunch I went up to put a pair of shorts on, and three hours later the Mrs woke me up to help her start the grill, and we had a nice steak dinner.

I played some MLB07 with the boy, then I went downstairs for a nice 15 mile bike ride, then goofed around on the computer until about 2230

Now its back to the office for a busy albeit shorter week, since we have Wednesday off because of the Independence Day holiday.

Live Free or Die Hard

Last night the Mrs and I saw Live Free or Die Hard, the fourth movie in the Die Hard series. Without giving too much away, its a great movie, and it goes to show you how much this country and the world depend on computers, and how smart computer hackers really can be.

Bruce Willis is brilliant once again in this movie, and his one liners, and side comments are again comedic gold in an action/suspense setting.

We will definitely get this on DVD.

Highly recommend this movie.

After the movie we went out to dinner at Bertucci's and had a nice dinner together. Although it was a late night, we had a nice night out together, which something we hadn't done in a long time
