Two Great Books On Philadelphia Sports

If you are a fan of or are from or used to be from the Philadelphia area, I highly recommend two books that are quick reads, but are very funny, informative, and capture, the passion, love, and hate this town and its fans have for its teams. The books are written by three hosts of the very popular AM sports talk station 610 WIP, Glen MacNow (who co-wrote two of them), Anthony Gargano, and Big Daddy Graham, MacNow and Gargano used to be writers for the Philadelphia Inquirer before they switched to talk Radio. Graham was and still is a local stand up comic. All three men grew up in the area and are very knowledgeable about Philly sports, its vast history and its fans.

The first is The Great Book of Philadelphia Sports Lists by Glen MacNow and Big Daddy Graham. This book which feature lists by many other sports and other celebrities. Some of the lists include:
  • Who were the ugliest mugs to ever play in Philadelphia?
  • What Philly athletes gave the best performance in film or TV?
  • What are the top area sports bars?
  • Who are the most overrated and underrated players in Philadelphia history?
  • What Philadelphia mortals had "touched-by-God" moments during the game?
  • Who is the most hated rival to Philly teams?
  • Who made the greatest sports exit?
  • Who are the most beautiful women associated with Philly sports?

I picked this book up last Friday, and have already gotten through it, its funny, brings back a lot of memories (some good, some bad) but mostly its very informative

The second is The Great Philadelphia Fan Book by Glen MacNow and Anthony Gargano. This book is mainly a book about the fans of this city, yes the one who booed and threw snow balls at Santa, and have often been labeled the toughest fans in the world, (Bloggers note, having been to many sports events in this town, we live and die with our teams, are we tough, hell yes, but we do support them through thick and thin. I just started this book, and so far it is really good.

Like I said earlier, if you are a Philly sports fan, you really need to pick these books up, especially the Fan Book. If you aren't a fan, at least pick up the Fan Book, it gets into the psyche and passion that we the fans in this city have for our teams, written from the fans perspective.
