The only man who was never elected to Presidency, and came to power at a time when this nation was in dire need. He was also the oldest person to live who had ever served as President, at 93 years of age. President Ford served this nation well, if only briefly. A World War II Navy veteran who served aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Monterey (CV-26) he went on the serve in the US House of Representatives for twenty five years, before being appointed Vice President after Spiro Agnew resigned. After President Nixon resigned on 09 August 1974, Ford ascended to the Presidency thus becoming the first person to attain the office without ever being elected and also the first under the 25th amendment.
He survived two assassination attempts (although the intended assassins missed) and was comically mocked for stumbling, most notably by Saturday Night Lives Chevy Chase
Although he lost a narrow victory for his own term in 1976 he led the country well in a time of such turmoil, and he helped restore pride in this great nation.
